Lied about insurance coverage, overcharged me.

First off, I want to say that Dental Works at the Chapel Hill Mall in Akron, Ohio is not all bad. The orthodontist provides AMAZING services, and I would recommend Dr. Skorobatckyj to anyone who is in need of an orthodontist. Since I had such a good experience with the orthodontist office, I decided that this would be my main dentist office. However, my last visit proved this to be a bad decision.

I went in to visit the dentist for a check-up and the dentist suggested that I get a mouth guard because that would hopefully prevent my jaw from locking while I'm sleeping. The dental assistant comes back with a form for me to sign and states that my insurance company, Guardian, would cover some of it, and explained what I would have to pay. So I signed the form.

A couple weeks later I get a bill from Dental Works stating that the insurance company didn't pay its share of the bill, and therefore I have to pay the $171.50 to make up the difference. Turns out the employees at this office did not call the insurance company to check up on the coverage, instead choosing to go by a chart that the office had in their possession. Guardian's coverage did not expand to pay for the mouth guard I purchased, unless I had surgery 6 months before, which I didn't. The employees at Dental Works should have known this, and instead of just going off a chart, they should have called to make sure that this would be covered, because THAT IS THEIR JOB.

There is also a discrepancy in the amount printed on the bill I received, and what I should pay to make up the difference. The bill states $171.50, and my accountant calculated that the bill should only be $156. Obviously there is something sketchy going on.

Moral of the story, do not go to this Dental Works office, unless you see Dr. Skorobatckyj for orthodontist work. And if you do, make sure that they actually call your insurance company to check the limits of your coverage, and that the calculate your bills correctly.

Incompetance driven by unethical managers

Went to the Indianapolis Dental Works office to have my teeth cleaned and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The Hygienist was singularly focused on running up the bill with items that, as it turns out, were not in good practice and were not covered by insurance. When my gum pockets proved too shallow to qualify for premium cleaning billing the hygienist kept probing deeper despite my objections to the pain. The following months they sent bills telling me what I owed and what they still expected the insurance company to pay. Despite me paying what they asked for each time, they sent the balance to a collection agency. It was eventually resolved when the insurance paid the last dollars due, and we got an apology from the girl at Dental works. But, I'm sure it lowered our credit score. The company's business model seems to be to hire fresh high school grads and push them to carry out upper management's money churning policies.

Nice people, but very inept dentist

I had a filling come out on a Saturday morning. My regular dentist doesn't work weekends, so I went to Dental Works for a temporary filling to get me through the weekend. I explained exactly what I needed. Even so, they tried to take 16 x-rays! I told them they could take one x-ray of the tooth that needed filled. The assistant looked a little confused until another assistant told her to only take one x-ray. The dentist looked at the x-ray and said he would not be able to even temporarily fill the tooth because there was a possibility of infection. The tooth would need a root canal or extraction. I said no thanks and paid my bill ($101.00, $28 of which was for the single x-ray). My regular dentist filled the tooth today.

Ripped off!!!

I called to schedule an appoitment to have an impacted wisdom tooth extracted and was told the cost would be 200.00 to 500.00 so i made an appoitment and went in. It was actually 1500.00 that the lady at the desk said. I never even saw the surgeon. I was charged for a consultation that i never had, and xrays. I couldn't afford that, so i paid extra for a copy of the xrays to bring them to another surgeon that was much cheaper, and ended up being more professional and nice and did a great job. The copy of the x-ray i paid for was just a blurr and couldn't even be used and i had to get another x-ray done anyway. I paid almost 300.00 to dental works for NOTHING!!! They were cold and uncaring. I feel i shouldn't have been charged all that money for absolutly NOTHING. I feel they are a rip off and liars and very unprofessional. It was a terrible and upsetting experience emotionally and financially. I recommend that no one goes there and to go to a real oral surgeon.

Attempted to coerce me into additional services

Dental Works D.B.A. Dr. Welsh & Associates Midway in Elyria, Ohio... On my last periodontal exam appointment 10-30-14 I informed both the receptionist as well as the hygienist that I am currently unemployed & without benefits and as a result respectfully decline any additional services. The hygienist attempted to coerce me at this point into an additional service expense of a Dr. exam after my cleaning by repeatedly saying... "it is mandated by the American Dental Association." When I at this point got up to leave as a result she recanted and continued to provide a very sub-standard cleaning. Now, shortly afterward my wife had an appointment for a cleaning so I proactively called to instruct the staff of my wishes not to approach my wife for additional services. At this point, the receptionist took a hard stand by saying that the Dr. exam after a cleaning is... "mandated by the A.D.A." I at this point, asked for the number of the corporate office and called and spoke with the customer service representative. At which time she also repeatedly with a very matter a fact tone stated that the Dr. exam was... "mandated by the A.D.A." I then called back and spoke with our personal dentist Dr. K who also passionately confirmed that the exam was... "mandated by the A.D.A." Then, I told him that I would be looking for an independent hygienist and would call him if I needed him." Then, later late January I received a letter of dismissal stating briefly... "I will no longer be able to treat you as I do not feel that the trust and confidence required in a doctor/patient relationship remains between us"... I at this point contacted the A.D.A. and told them what happened and asked if it were true, do they mandate doctor exams after cleaning and she resoundingly said no, and that there were other complaints of customers saying the same thing. Afterward, I called the Ohio state dental board and filed a formal complaint with them.

Over charging??

I had an appointment with this company (?) on 03/03/15 at 3:30 pm, sat in the waiting room until 4:40 before being seen. I went on line filled out all the paper work so I didn't have to do it there. Finally after seeing patient after patient come and go it was my turn. I went in for a emergency appt. My tooth chipped in the front and they put on a temp filling the wrong color and said that to come back and we'll do the crown. Now while waiting the in the lobby one thing I noticed is a lot of people called in about billing inquires and was told "You have a credit" on your account. So that was the start of the red flags for me. The "office manager" with the cheesy smile came in and explained to me the cost to do the crown. $1474 and my insurance would cover $1063. Now looking over my insurance policy I knew something didn't sound right. I want to thank people for posting their personal experience and nightmares about this place before I too became another pawn on their game. Needless to say my appt will be cancelled and I will let my insurance company be aware of any future billings from them should not be paid.

Rip off artists, incompetent and rude

I agree with the review. Then dentists at this location act like they don't work there. They only come there to rip off your insurance and move on. Be very careful in dealing with these folks, they love to have you sign a contract, which in my case over evaluates what your insurance pays, coupled with a promise to pay if your insurance does not. There staff are just out of high school and have no clue what they are doing. There office staff would be best working for a local fast food chain, rather in a professional atmosphere. They will say almost anything to to lock you into a contract.

I had a scheduled cleaning and I had my teeth cleaned by Rachael and then she said the Dentist didn't have time to see me that I would have to wait all day to be fit in again or I would have to reschedule and then they charged me for things that they "snuck in" and said it would be covered only to be billed for them weeks later. I would definitely not return and I do not recommend this place! They are terrible and the hygienist acts like she hates her job and can't wait to get home.Terrible place!

Unprofessional manager, denied care because covered by insurance

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was denied care because they wouldn't be profiting off of my visit for a cleaning. Did not want to do xrays and they couldn't bill insurance for them so they denied me my cleaning. Manager is unprofessional, sat and waited almost an hour listening to her gossip and talk about others. Poor representation of company, horribly dressed wearing clothes to small for her large size and hair bleached out, she looks horrible to be a manager. She shouldn't be working with the public at all, she should be doing a job where no public contact is needed. Her attitude is poor and she talks down to the customers. The staff also dislikes her. Dentalworks is making a mistake keeping her on the front line. its all about making money for them, stay away.

$500+ Credit Balance on account but was NEVER notified

Dental Works - Chicago IL .... my husband had some dental work done July last year and was told to pay up front (based upon their estimate of what insurance would pay) before they submitted a claim to the insurance company. As it turns out, the insurance company paid more which resulted to a credit balance of $508.00. It has been sitting in Dental Works' account since July 2014. We didn't get any statement notifying us of the balance, we just found out about it when I got some work done (Feb 2015) and I was told I didn't have to pay because we have a credit balance. Money has been sitting there for 7 months. I wonder how many more patients they have with credit balances and how much interest they are collecting on that money.

Dental Works Salisbury NC

The dentist came in and instead of speaking directly to me, he only spoke to the dental assistant who then relayed the message to me. I thought this was impersonal and rude. I didn't get a chance to ask him any questions because by the time I turned around he was gone. Only stumbled through my questions with the assistant. The rooms are only so big. Why not speak to your patients? And if you schedule an emergency appt, be prepared to waste your afternoon. As the dentist there only feels "comfortable" doing simple extractions and the dentalworks oral surgeon only visits each office once every 2 weeks. Instead of taking care of my problem wisdom tooth, they recommended I wait & get all 3 remaining removed. Will never visit this chain ripoff again.

Services

I made an appointment with Dental Works, because I was having pain in my tooth. They saw me took x-rays and took me I need a tooth pulled, but made the appointment for a month later. They did not give me a prescription for pain, but they charge $50 for the visit. I wished I read the reviews before I went. I would have never made an appointment. The should not be open for business. They are only for the money they make and not providing good customer service. A petition should be create to force they to close there doors for business.
